Promotional Products As Marketing Strategies
Last Updated on Saturday, 9 October 2010 08:51 Written by Mollie Suzzaana Saturday, 9 October 2010 08:51
Generally being small or inexpensive, promotional products could be any number of items, such as, T-shirts, peak-caps, key rings or USB flash drives. Being marked with a logo or brand name the gift is promoted via a marketing campaign and communications platforms to be given away.
Usually a slogan, logo or name of a company would be incorporated in a branding strategy known as guerilla marketing. The corporate image and brand awareness is then highlighted at an event, conference, trade show or any other event where the company can be promoted.
The marketing industry dates back just over 200 years, with the first known promotional items being the commemorative buttons serving the presidential election of George Washington in 1789. From the early 1800′s there were a handful of items used for promotion, yet it was not until the 1900′s that an organized industry existed for the creation and distribution of promotional products.
A man named Jasper Meeks, said by many to be the father of this industry. Convincing a shoe store to print book bags with their name on it, and giving it to the local schools in Ohio, it was not long until Henry Beach, another local from Ohio, started the same idea.
It was only in 1904 that 12 manufacturing companies of promotional products established the first trade association of this industry. Only fifty years later, the industry was established as Corporate Marketing. Those 12 manufacturing companies are known today as the PPAI. Promotional Products Association International.
With the business world realizing the value that promo products hold, the industry started to expand in 1970. By promoting brand awareness, products and their corporate entities, the business world gained publicity reaching further than before, by giving away marketing gifts with their logo or brand name.
The industry has grown to be the leading global manufacturer and distributor of an ever-growing list of items used as promo products. Even now after the arrival of E-commerce and online trading, the U. K. And Ireland remain the center of the supply chain.
An organization would initiate a strategic and targeted marketing plan utilizing the promotional items to bring light to brand awareness as the most common used methodology. Often celebrities would be offered more valuable gifts to be seen with the promoted product at an event like a film festival. This being another strategy to gain publicity for the brand name.
Charities, churches along with schools also make use of similar marketing strategies for awareness raising campaigns and the like. The very familiar red ribbon symbolizing the fight against HIV AIDS being one such cause that is recognized worldwide. Wristbands and bright yellow bandanas for cancer, exhibiting exactly how powerful something potentially small, can be so significant.
The total value of the UK and Ireland promotional products industry was valued to be 850 million pounds at the end of 2008 and showing all signs of growth. At the end of 2009, the fastest growing product at the time was hand sanitizer.
Look for those promotional items that will help with your next promotion by looking online. There you will find many promotional products that can be useful. Go online today.

Are Promotional Products Really Necessary?
Last Updated on Monday, 4 October 2010 09:20 Written by Graeme Malekont Monday, 4 October 2010 09:20
1789 marks the first date that Promotional Products were used in the United States. Commemorative buttons were used as a Promotional tool for the Election campaign of George Washington. It was only untill the late 19th century that an official industry was formed. Until that time, calendars, buttons, and other promo items were used to promote candidates and companies.
A shoe store owner in Ohio was amongst the first businesses to use Promotional Products after a printer convinced the store owner to supply bags with the stores logo imprinted on them. In 1904 the PPAI (The Promotional Products Association International) was formed. This allowed manufactures to get together and form a formal trade association. There are more than 22,000 Distributors who represent over 4000 Manufacturers across the planet. The PPAI has grown to more than 7000 members globally.
Corporate gifts became more relevant in the 1970′s sparking a new form of Corporate Advertising. Corporations saw the value of adopting Promo Items as a necessity for Branding, Promoting, and spreading the word about the services and products they offered. Before the 1970′s Promotional Items were only used for campaigning and the occasional gifts. In the 80′s an explosion in the market occurred, thus enhancing the need for Promotional Merchandise as a part all Advertising and Marketing for all companies. Whether it is a book of matches from a local restaurant to Coke using Promotional Products the industry was here to stay.
In order for the suppliers to focus on production, Distributors were formed as selling agents. It was agreed that the Suppliers would never sell directly to the end users. In order to make this work Distributors were assigned discount codes, and catalogs were produced for them with retail prices that included their commissions. If an end user was able to contact the suppliers, they would have to identify themselves by producing an agent number in order to receive the discounted price. This effective system was efficient and helped the suppliers focus on the highest methods of production, while the Distributors could focus on the creativeness needed to sell the items.
In the 1990s it seemed that seasonal gift giving was the most popular use for these products as a marketing tool. Companies jumped at the chance to extend a thank you by incorporating Promo Products into every major holiday including Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and others. This was a golden opportunity to say thank you, as well as an opportunity to keep their brand at the forefront of their customers mind. There is not a day that goes by now where these items are not exchanged between company and client. The value of a leave behind has become a gesture that as a thank you also now has endless possibilities. The technological breakthroughs have expanded the market from what used to be simple items such as a pen, we are now seeing more complex products like integrated screen savers displaying corporate logos that create a lasting effect of brands for your company or product. The more creative an idea or product the more enticing the tool becomes. Corporations are becoming more and more competitive showing off their creative methods of using promo items, and who ever receives these great gifts are anticipating more and more great items as their next freebie.

3 Popular Mistakes Of Promotional Polo Shirts Users
Last Updated on Saturday, 17 July 2010 07:01 Written by Celine Benjamin Saturday, 17 July 2010 07:01
Not every company who exhausts custom printed polo shirts reaps the results they initially desired. This is simply because plenty of these companies commit certain mistakes that they should not do in the first place. If you are currently in the process of planning a show through shirts, here are the errors you should avoid so you can be impressive:
Creating a marketing strategy a day before the exhibition launch itself.
A awesome promotional plan cannot be devised overnight. Largely, it takes a countless number of brainstorming, research and drafting to come up with an effective plan that is easy to execute. For demonstration, you cannot cram market survey and just make a brief survey through the internet in just a few minutes; otherwise, you’ll end up not with an unsubstantial research. Research must be analyzed in length by the simple reason that different people have different tastes and needs.
Not spending ample time thinking of an all-encompassing theme for your pitch.
If you do not have a single theme that will weave all the aspects of your buildup, your marketing will have less attraction or no effect at all. Showing off is all about communicating ideas that compel, confuse and move a large amount of people. In order to do this, you should think thoroughly of your message and the vehicle you will utilize to convey it to the public. So, take sufficing time thinking of a superb theme that is in accordance to the current trends and to the vision of your company for this specific campaign.
Provide shirts that has diverse sizes.
Of all the custom imprinted items, it is promotional polo shirts that size is very crucial. This is because not all kinds of people can make use of the shirts if it doesn’t fit them. And you really want to tap a huge number of clientele so you will have collosal chance for exposure. So, what you need to do is to make your shirts free size so an abundant number of people can use them. If you don’t, you are only limiting the number of prospects that can use your custom printed item. But of course, if you already have a specific prospect in your head and you know each of their body sizes, you can, by all means, put sizes on the goodies that you will give.
